Don't let bonfire night go up in smoke, says insurer

23 October 2008 15:36

Families planning on holding Bonfire Night celebrations have been advised to check home insurance policies before beginning festivities.

Cheshire Building Society believes the event is a good time to review your existing cover, with the lender offering a 25 per cent discount for those that take out a new contents insurance policy.

The Society warns that while sparklers and fireworks can provide unlimited excitement, they can also cause untold damage.

Karen Torson, the product manager at Cheshire Building Society, said that Bonfire Night is a great opportunity to invite friends and family over, but it also a time of year when accidents do happen.

For this reason it is vital that you check your existing home insurance policy to ensure it covers you from fire damage, Ms Torson added.

Earlier this week, research published by the AA revealed that the average UK car insurance premium had risen by 3.1 per cent.
