Insurance claims spike over Halloween

27 October 2008 15:08

home insurance claims rise by more than double over the Halloween period, research has revealed.

Statistics revealed by Tesco home insurance show that claims for damaged property could soar by as much as 150 per cent this Friday (October 31st).

As a result, the insurer has warned all homeowners to ensure that their policy is up-to-date and that all of their possessions are adequately covered.

Head of Tesco home insurance, Jim Bruce, commented that while Halloween is a fun time of year for most, revellers can get carried away and cause serious damage to property.

He added that it was reassuring to know that your personal items were covered should you fall victim to vandalism or malicious acts this Friday.

Other recommendations from Tesco include hiding any garden furniture that you don't want ruined by trick or treaters and turning off the lights and pretending you're not at home.
