1 December 2008 15:53
A leading insurer has warned revellers to be vigilante over the Christmas period, with criminals likely looking to take advantage.
AA insurance has issued a number of tips for ensuring the festive season goes off without a hitch, including making sure your vehicle is secure as you buy gifts for friends and family.
The company suggests checking you current insurance policy covers for an adequate amount of personal items in both the car and home.
Simon Douglas, director of AA insurance, said that break-ins rise by a significant amount as shoppers hit the high streets to buy presents for loved ones during the Christmas period.
He added that people should take extra care when last-minute shopping, making sure not to leave gifts and other expensive items on clear display in their vehicles.
According to statistics from the police, property is stolen from a vehicle every 13 seconds in this country, with a substantial portion of this taking place in car parks.
