M&S sounds Xmas insurance warning

17 December 2008 16:53

Marks and Spencer Money has advised homeowners to ensure that they are fully covered by contents insurance this Christmas.

Experts at the insurer are concerned that shoppers over the festive season will leave expensive items in their homes, placing them at the mercy of criminals.

Research by the company found that some may be especially at risk of this, with 39 per cent of families leaving presents under their trees well in advance of the big day.

Marks and Spencer Money insurance manager, Judith Roberts, said that by making sure they had comprehensive contents cover, home owners could relax and enjoy themselves over the Christmas period.

She added that it was not difficult to get caught up in the festivities and forget that burglars saw this time of year as an opportunity for easy pickings.

A recent investigation by Sainsbury's travel insurance found that the number of claims for winter sports-related injuries had soared by 11 per cent in the last year.
