Pre-paid funeral option for over 50s

24 November 2008 16:18

A leading British insurer has announced that it will be offering individuals the opportunity to pay for their funeral in advance.

RIAS insurance's Funeral Plan is exclusive to customers aged over 50 years old and is designed to spare families the cost and stress of dealing with arrangements when the time comes.

The company believes that such an option is an important one, with the average price of a funeral now standing at just under £2,400 and likely to increase with future inflation.

Managing director for RIAS, Janet Connor, said that the company had conducted surveys in order to gauge the reaction to the product, with public opinion being overwhelmingly positive.

She added that the insurer was also delighted to be teaming up with its new partner, the funeral director Dignity, with which it looked forward to working with.

RIAS is a subsidiary of Fortis UK, which insures more than 6.7 million policyholders and employs nearly 3,000 staff.
